2009 Richard Family Reunion

On August 16-17, more than 500 Richard met at the LaFontaine Community School Center in Néguac during the Congrès mondial acadien 2009. The meeting began with a lunch followed by a Mass at 11:00 am presided over by the Archbishop of Moncton Mgr. André Richard. At the beginning of the afternoon, the official opening took place under the honorary presidency of Zachary Richard. On this occasion, the unveiling of the coat of arms of the Richard Association of New Brunswick was announced. There was also a wine and cheese and a lecture by Mr. Guy Richard, president of the Association of Richard families of Quebec on the history of the descendants of Michel Richard. The day ended with a dance party with the Double R. band

On Monday, a group of participants went by bus to visit historic sites, and the Richard meeting ended with a closing dinner at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Tracadie-Sheila.

2009 General Assembly

The Annual General Meeting of the Association was held at the Golden Age Club of Saint-Ignace on Sunday, June 7, 2009. About sixty people were present. There was a report from the committees and the treasurer Marie-Louise Richard reported that the balance on the association’s account as at May 30, 2009 was of 1961.85. It was proposed that the contribution for the 2009-2010 year remain the same at $ 5.00. The Association currently has 251 members.

During the business meeting, the main topic was the 2009 RICHARD MEETING in August and steps to obtain a coat of arms.

The following people were elected to the Board of Directors for 2009-2010:
President, Alyre Richard; former president, Alcide Richard; Vice President, Arsène Richard; secretary, Jean A. Richard; treasurer, Marie-Louise Richard; Councilors: Adrien Richard, Émile Richard, Laurie Richard.

The business session was followed by an afternoon of music and a fricot dinner.

Trip to Prince Edward Island – January 13th 2009

On January 13, several representatives of Acadian families members of FAFA attended the commemorations marking the 250th anniversary of the deportation of Acadians from Prince Edward Island (formerly Ile-Saint-Jean) in 1758. deportation, two of the ships carrying the Acadians were shipwrecked resulting in the death of more than 600 of them.

On January 13, there was also the unveiling of an Odyssey monument at the Port-La-Joye Historic Site near Charlottetown.
