- All of Sylvère Richard’s military documents which indicate his date of birth show 1921 and not 1923. (Pages 1, 17, 30, 31, 42, 129 and 139), except for 2 pages. Page 34 indicates his year of birth as 1923. It is a form filled in by Augustin Richard (his father) at the time of Sylvère’s death and page 44, which is part of the ‘Soldiers Service and Pay Book’ which has been completed by Sylvère himself. This indicates his year of birth as 1922. At first glance, it would seem that Sylvère may have lied about his age to ensure he was accepted into the army.
