Description
Denis Savard holds a degree in history and geography from the University of Ottawa. Originally from Campbellton, he returned to the newsroom of L’Acadie Nouvelle in January 2015, after a stay of more than 15 years in the photo desk of La Presse canadienne in Toronto. As a genealogist, he published in 2000 the Genealogical Dictionary of Arsenault Families (Ed. MultiMondes), then several in-depth articles since 2006 in the journal Mémoires of the French Canadian Genealogical Society on the subject of the Savards in France and the MacIntyres of Restigouche. Several other families currently being studied are also listed on its website savart.info. He writes a genealogy column in L’Acadie Nouvelle since September 2015.
This work brings together thematically the “Racines acadiennes” chronicles, published in L’Acadie Nouvelle from September 2015 to June 2016. These chronicles are primarily aimed at Acadians in New Brunswick, but Acadian descendants of the diaspora will find there certainly their account. The author is particularly keen to debunk myths and correct errors that have been widely spread (a phenomenon accentuated in the digital age). He also wants to make known the latest discoveries of researchers from everywhere concerning Acadian families.
