History & Genealogy of Michel Richard dit Sansoucy
After the premature death of Madeleine, Michel contracted a second marriage in 1683 with Jeanne Babin, a young girl aged fifteen, whose father and mother were her neighbors; Antoine Babin and Marie Mercier. Two other children are from this second union.
René Richard dit Beaupré, the eldest of Michel’s children, was born in Port-Royal around 1657. At the age of about twenty-three, René married Madeleine Landry, daughter of René Landry and Perrine Bourque. René and Madeleine gave birth to four boys and a girl. The eldest of their children was a son named after his paternal grandfather. He marries, in Port-Royal, on November 21, 1712, Marie-Josèphe Bourgeois, daughter of Germain Bourgeois and Madeleine Dugas.
Michel Richard dit Beaupré’s had eight sons and four daughters. Two of his sons were born in New Brunswick. The oldest of these, Jean-Baptiste dit Jani Richard, was born in Port-Royal on April 10, 1718. He married in his native parish on November 4, 1745, Françoise Girouard, daughter of Guillaume Girouard and Marie Bernard.
Having moved to Memramcook after their marriage, Jani and Francoise escaped the deportation of 1755. They met in Caraquet during the Mackenzie raid in 1761. Brought back to Fort Cumberland, Jani and his family then went to Memramcook and finally to Richibucto-Village. Jani died in the latter place on March 19, 1796.
