The Association was founded in 1992 when a first meeting was held to organize a the first Richard Family Reunion for the 1994 World Acadian Congress. It was formally formed in 1994 when a constitution was adopted as well as a Board of Directors.

In 1999, the association was incorporated legally and in 2009, it got its coat of arms. These were issued and permanently displayed on February 27, 201
